Nolan R. Ng, OD

Our Optometry practice has been in the Rolling Hills Plaza since 1970 and became Incredible Eye Care Optometry, APC in 2010.  The Incredible Eye Care Optometry team welcomes Dr. Nolan Ng as our lead doctor after he was recruited by Dr. Robert Shapiro to join the practice and care for his long time patients the way he would want to be treated.

Dr. Ng was born and raised in Torrance. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from UC Irvine and his Doctorate from the Southern College of Optometry, in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Ng has spent most of his career involved in advanced vision corrective procedures, both surgical and non-surgical. He is also skilled at contact lens fittings for diseased or irregular shaped eyes, such as Keratoconus. Being a leader and lecturer in his profession for “surgical” vision corrective procedures, he felt a particular passion for an alternative “non-surgical” option for vision correction known as Orthokeratology (Ortho K), or Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT) for those not ready for surgery, not a good candidate for surgery, or those simply wanting to slow down or halt the progression of nearsightedness(myopia). Dr. Ng also treats and manages various medical eye conditions including but not limited to Glaucoma, and Conjunctivitis.  He also specializes in emergency eye care such as corneal abrasions, foreign body removal, and red eyes. He is credentialed on numerous vision and medical insurance panels, including VSP, EyeMed, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna, and THIPA (Torrance Hospital IPA.)

Dr. Ng had left private practice temporarily in 1995 after being recruited by many industry leaders including UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute, where he served as a clinical staff doctor and Marshall B. Ketchum University, Southern California College of Optometry’s – OCLA and Western University School of Optometry – Pomona, CA , where he is still currently an On-Call staff doctor assisting and training Optometry Students. Dr. Ng was later recruited by world-renowned eye surgeon, Dr. Robert Maloney, of the Maloney Vision Institute who was the exclusive eye surgeon for the original “Extreme Makeover” TV series which Dr. Ng assisted. Dr. Ng has lectured on various surgical subject matters, including LASIK, PRK, CK, Intacs, Verisys IOL, Visian ICL, and Cataract Surgery utilizing some of the latest IOL’s such as the Crystalens, ReStor, and ReZoom multifocal IOL. He has participated in numerous FDA studies which have led to the introduction of some of today’s newest surgical procedures to improve vision, such as CK and the Verisys IOL. Subsequently, Dr. Ng managed one of the largest refractive surgical practices in Phoenix, Arizona, but decided to return to California to re-enter private practice whereby he joined and later purchased Dr. Shapiro’s practice.

Dr. Ng is an active member of the COA, AOA, Academy of Orthokeratology, South Bay Optometric Society, and Torrance Chamber of Commerce. In the past, he served in the local South Bay Rotary Club as a Board Member and South Bay Optometric Society as a past board elected Committee Member. He volunteers at his daughter’s school during his free time.

He currently enjoys spending time with his daughter, playing tennis, bicycling, hiking, fishing, and snow skiing. You may find him attending to many civic duties here locally in the Torrance area as well.
